Cookstown Fire Protection Service joins forces with Cancer Charity to support local people living with cancer
A new partnership is heating up with the launch of local company Fire Safe and Northern Ireland’s leading cancer charity, Cancer Focus Northern Ireland. The Cookstown based company has been providing specialist fire safety services throughout Northern Ireland for 24 years and with a commitment to serving the local community at the heart of everything they do have chosen Cancer Focus NI as their charity partner.
Hugh and Maria Doyle, owners of the family-owned organisation explained; “We are absolutely delighted to work alongside Cancer Focus Northern Ireland as our nominated charity. Our organisation is committed to serving the local community and when we discovered the work of Cancer Focus NI and their plans to open Cancer Support Centres in local towns across Northern Ireland, we knew it would be a perfect fit for us. Through this partnership, we hope to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of cancer through information days with our staff and customers along with fundraising to help support the fantastic work that the charity is doing to support local people on their cancer journey.”
Fire Safe employees have a busy year ahead with plans to participate in and provide sponsorship for the annual Cancer Focus NI Golf Day and support local fundraising events in Cookstown, while Cancer Focus Northern Ireland will be providing information and wellbeing days including a visit from our Keeping Well Van to offer employees the chance to take steps to lower their risk of cancer.
Director of Income Generation and Communications, Maeve Colgan looks excitedly towards the year ahead; “We are delighted that Fire Safe have chosen us as their charity partner for 2024. With so many commonalities in serving the people of Northern Ireland and commitment to keeping the public safe, we know this will be a beneficial collaboration.”
She continued: “As well as donating to the charity, this partnership will see all our retail shops across Northern Ireland receive a discounted fire safety and maintenance service. The partnership is set to be hugely successful, and we can’t thank Hugh, Maria and their team enough for their generosity and support.”
Cancer Focus NI has a number of vital support services to help local people and their families affected by cancer. These services include counselling, family support, specialist bra fitting, art therapy and a patient driving service. The charity funds groundbreaking local research and offers a range of health improvement services including the Keeping Well vans, stop smoking service, schools’ programmes and skin cancer prevention work. In late 2024, the charity will open its first Cancer Support Centre in Enniskillen with four more planned for Northern Ireland in the coming years.
