Garden Fete Blooms as it raises over £7,000 for local cancer services

Cancer Focus Northern Ireland’s Enniskillen fundraising group, together with Palliative Transport Service Fermanagh, have raised an outstanding £7,400 through the Killyreagh Garden Fete hosted by Lord and Lady Anthony Hamilton on 12th May 2024. The family event saw hundreds of people from the local community gather for a fun filled day with live music, flower arranging, face painting and complimentary health checks provided to attendees by the Cancer Focus NI Keeping Well Van.

Last year the charity launched an ambitious plan to open five Cancer Support Centres in towns and cities across Northern Ireland. The first of these will open in Enniskillen in early 2025. The organisation relies on the passionate dedication of local businesses and members of the community to fund 90% of their work, with all funds raised staying right here in Northern Ireland to support people affected by cancer. Donations make a massive impact£340 will pay for 6 hours of counselling sessions for a local family in the Fermanagh area who are going through a cancer diagnosis or bereavement.

Ita McManus, Chairperson of PTS  (Fermanagh) said: “We are so pleased to be in Partnership with Cancer Focus NI’s big new initiative in Enniskillen and we look forward working together as their project develops in the future.”

Denise Ferguson, Chairperson of the Cancer Focus NI Enniskillen Fundraising Group said: “We had a very enjoyable fundraising day in the beautiful Killyreagh Gardens. Our sincere thanks to Lord & Lady Hamilton for this privilege and experience working in partnership with Palliative Transport Service. We look forward to many more events where we can work together for the benefit of helping and supporting all those affected by Cancer in this local area. A huge thanks also to everyone who helped and supported our great event.”

Krystle Corrigan, Fermanagh Community Fundraising Officer, Cancer Focus NI, said: “We can’t thank Lord and Lady Anthony Hamilton enough for opening their beautiful gardens in Killyreagh and raising vital funds to support the new Partnership of our long-standing local charity Palliative Transport Service with Cancer Focus NI. We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude and thanks to everyone who donated, volunteered, and supported The Garden Fete fundraiser. The shocking reality is that 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime in Northern Ireland, and the money raised will go a long way in supporting local people in the Fermanagh area who are dealing with the devastating reality of a cancer diagnosis.
