Macklin Group joins forces with Cancer Charity to support local people living with cancer

Macklin Group have launched their latest charity partnership with leading local cancer charity, Cancer Focus Northern Ireland, a familiar organisation to the group with their Malone Boutique Hotel neighbouring the charity’s headquarters on Eglantine Avenue in Belfast. The family-run group has been established for nearly forty years – their Care Homes and Hotel both dedicated to “treating people really well”, a commonality that is shared with the local cancer charity who provide vital support services including counselling, family support, specialist bra fitting, art therapy and a patient driving service for local people who are dealing with the devastating reality of a cancer diagnosis.

Gareth Macklin, Director of Macklin Group, reflects on the timing of the collaboration; “This partnership marks a meaningful milestone as we approach our 40th year as a family business. Cancer Focus have been a valued neighbour for many years, and we are pleased to be working together to make a real difference to the lives of local people. Every day we work closely with families in our care homes, and now we can reach even more people who need support.”

Macklin Group employees, clients and loyal customers will have a busy year ahead with plans to host a range of fun-filled fundraisers including family fun days, sporting events, collections, raffles and gifts in kind. They will also be working closely with the Cancer Focus Northern Ireland team to deliver information and wellbeing days, including stop smoking stands, care in the sun clinics along with a visit from the organisations Keeping Well Van, that will offer employees the opportunity to receive health checks and learn more about healthy lifestyles to help reduce the risk of cancer.

Rosie Forsythe, Cancer Focus NI Corporate Fundraising Manager, looks excitedly towards the years ahead; “We are delighted that The Macklin Group have chosen us as their charity partner.  Every year, we need to raise £4.6 million pounds to continue to deliver our vital services to local people in Northern Ireland and corporate partnerships play an integral part in our charity’s fundraising. We are looking forward to the partnership and are excited for what we will achieve to continue to make a lasting difference to local people on their cancer journey.”

All funds raised stay right here in Northern Ireland to support people affected by cancer. Donations make a massive impact, £233 will pay for 4 hours of specialist support for a local family going through a cancer diagnosis or bereavement.

Last year the charity launched an ambitious plan to open five Cancer Support Centres in towns and cities across Northern Ireland. The first of these will open in Enniskillen in late 2024. Businesses will play a massive role in the charity’s strategic direction over the coming months and years by ensuring the delivery and sustainability of the Cancer Support Centres.
