Ready, Steady, Woah! Charity Partnership with Moy Park Belfast City Women’s 10k raises £30k
The atmosphere was electric as two thousand women stood shoulder to shoulder to run, jog and walk in the second year of the Moy Park Belfast City Women’s 10K at the iconic surroundings of the Titanic Quarter in Belfast. An event that is all about female empowerment, it was incredibly fitting that 350 of those women taking part decided to run for the official charity partner, Cancer Focus Northern Ireland who provide specialist services for local women who are dealing with the devastating reality of a cancer diagnosis. The unwavering support from women supporting women raised an unbelievable £30K for the local cancer charity.
Speaking about the success of the event and the importance of supporting a worthwhile local organisation, Eimear Degan, Operations Manager at Belfast City Marathon said:
“This event was born out of passion and determination to empower women to celebrate their strength together, encourage fitness and wellbeing and we are overjoyed with another amazing turnout of women, who truly embodied this message. It was a pleasure to work with Cancer Focus Northern Ireland again this year, and we’re delighted that so many participants chose to support vital work happening right here in Northern Ireland that is making a huge difference in the lives of local women.”
Every year 6432 women are diagnosed with cancer in Northern Ireland, a sobering statistic that emphasises the importance of access to support when it is needed the most. Cancer Focus NI puts women and their families at the centre of everything they do with services like counselling, art therapy, bra fitting, family support and breast cancer peer support groups.
Pat McClelland, Director of Services at Cancer Focus NI, said:
“We are beyond grateful to Belfast City Marathon and Moy Park to have been chosen as a charity partner again for this fantastic event. To every woman who ran, walked or jogged, all while fundraising, you have made a huge difference to the lives of other local women who are going through one of the most difficult periods of their life. We need to raise £4.6million every year to keep our specialist services operating, and it simply wouldn’t be possible without the support from passionate fundraisers. We can’t thank you enough and cannot wait to cheer for you at a future event.”
Cancer Focus NI will be busy in the months ahead as they raise awareness for their Breast Cancer campaign in October which includes their iconic Pink Run, a pink powdered fun run for the whole family that is also set in the stunning setting of the Titanic Quarter.
