Cancer Focus NI’s message to new MPs following 2024 UK General Election

Following yesterday’s General Election, Cancer Focus NI Chief Executive Richard Spratt comments:

“As we welcome the new MPs, we also remind them that cancer cannot wait. With one in two of us projected to face a cancer diagnosis in our lifetimes, cancer will likely touch everyone, either through your own diagnosis or that of a loved one. We need to act now – at every level of government – to improve waiting times, early detection, cancer prevention, and more. It’s not like problems will ‘go away’ if we don’t invest in health; they will only become more costly and less treatable, as a result of growing backlogs and projected increases in cancer incidence.

“We look forward to working with the new MPs to see local people gain access to world-leading, equitable cancer support, treatment, diagnosis, prevention, and research. If there is ever anything we can help with, please reach out.”
