Our new charity partner – Sainsbury’s Newry

We are pleased to announce that Sainsbury’s Newry has chosen Cancer Focus NI as its new Local Charity of the Year!

We’d like to thank Sainsbury’s customers and we are looking forward to a year of support through fundraising. This valuable partnership will also help us raise awareness of cancer – and the wonderful work we do to help local cancer patients and their families.

Staff at Sainsbury’s Newry will spend the year raising money in a number of ways, including bag packs and a variety of events and raffles.  Cancer Focus NI will also be raising awareness of cancer by holding information days, visiting the store with our health check Keeping Well van, stop smoking stands and care in the sun clinics.

Rosie Forsythe, corporate fundraising manager at Cancer Focus NI, and her colleagues from the charity were at the store recently to kick start the partnership with a health promotion stand and collection.

Rosie said: “We’re delighted that Sainsbury’s Newry has chosen us as their new charity partner for 2015/2016. We know that Sainsbury’s Newry is not just a committed retailer but is also dedicated to helping people in the community and supporting local charities.”

“It’s an honour to be associated with such a well-known company that really is at the heart of the local community and we’re looking forward to working with its staff and customers over the next year.”

Simon Johnston, Store Manager at Sainsbury’s Newry, said: “We’re really looking forward to working with Cancer Focus NI over the next year and our team has some great ideas for fundraising.”

“We hope our support will make a real difference to the charity, and that our customers enjoy the variety of activities we are planning.”

The Local Charity scheme is now in its seventh year and has raised over £7m to support local charities since 2009.

If you would like to volunteer to help with collections at the store please email moragchambers@cancerfocusni.org or call 028 9066 3281.
