On your marks, get set, support Cancer Focus NI at this year’s Moy Park Belfast City Women’s 10k

Following the resounding success of the Belfast City Women’s 10K in 2023, we are delighted to announce its return on Sunday 23rd June 2024 against the stunning backdrop of the Titanic Quarter, with new title sponsor Moy Park. Cancer Focus Northern Ireland are absolutely delighted to be chosen as charity partner for the unique event for the second consecutive year, and to continue to raise awareness and funds for specialist female cancer support services to support local women who are on their cancer journey.

Maeve Colgan, Director of Fundraising and Communications of Cancer Focus NI, said:

“We are deeply honoured to be chosen as the charity partner for the Moy Park Belfast City Women’s 10K again for 2024. Every year we need to raise £4.4 million pounds to continue to deliver our life changing services which are essential to local women and their families who are dealing with cancer. This wouldn’t be possible without the ongoing support from organisations like Belfast City Marathon, and the participants running, jogging or walking with all of their closest female friends and family to raise vital funds to support local women.”

She continued: “This year is even more special as the fundraising will also go towards the development and sustainability of our charity’s Cancer Support Centres, the first of which will open in Enniskillen in late 2024 to help support local women and families.”

Every month, 536 women are diagnosed with cancer, this could be your mum, daughter, sister, girlfriend, or colleague. Cancer Focus Northern Ireland keep women and their families at the centre of everything they do with services like counselling, art therapy, bra fitting, family support and breast cancer peer support in their Thrive and Focus Friends groups. Cancer Focus NI services are in high demand and to continue to make a difference to women across Northern Ireland they want to urge participants taking part to make it a run with a purpose by raising funds to help the organisation continue this offering. £52 could pay for a one-hour consultation with a bra & Swimwear Fitting specialist, helping to give a woman back her confidence after treatment or surgery.

Cancer Focus Northern Ireland are delighted to also announce the support of Katharine Walker, a woman who wears many hats as the previous Miss Northern Ireland, Cool FM presenter and paediatric nurse. Katharine knows the importance of women’s health in her role as a health professional is encouraging all local women to rally together and get involved.

Katherine noted:

“As a nurse, I know the importance of prioritising your own health and physical well-being and an event like the Moy ParkWomen’s 10K is a perfect way to look after yourself, fundraise for an important cause and have a fun day out with your girlfriends. As a local woman myself, I love the idea of an event that is just for us girls, spurring each other on and bringing women’s health to the forefront.”

Katherine continued:

“And at times when you do need that support, knowing that there are organisations like Cancer Focus Northern Ireland who are there for you when you need them, is reassuring and really adds a special meaning to an event like this.”
