Record numbers expected for the return of the 2022 Mash Direct Belfast City Half Marathon on Sunday 18th September

The organisers are delighted to welcome back runners for their popular Belfast City Half Marathon Event which is due to take place on Sunday 18th September sponsored by new title sponsor Mash Direct.

2022 will be the 9th edition of the event, and with the previous 4 years selling out, the organisers are confident that this will be another capped race with close to 6,000 runners taking their place at the start line at Ormeau Embankment on Race Day – the largest half marathon in Northern Ireland.

Clare Forster, Head of Marketing, Mash Direct commented:

‘We are delighted to become title sponsor of the Mash Direct Belfast City Half Marathon 2022 for the first time’.

As a local food producer of award-winning vegetable side accompaniments, it is our ambition to empower people to enter and sign up to the half marathon to get fit and increase their vegetable consumption to live a healthier lifestyle. Our farm is just a short distance away from the Half Marathon route, this partnership ties in perfectly with our health initiatives and local community engagement. I have participated in the Half Marathon myself on two occasions, it is a fantastic course and set to be a huge hit this year as the half marathon returns to the streets of Belfast. We have lots of convenient and fresh vegetable side dishes to help fuel your energy levels and boost your vegetable consumption. Come on Champs Sign Up to the Mash Direct Belfast City Half Marathon today!”

The Official charity of the Mash Direct Belfast City Half Marathon is Cancer Focus NI. As this is their final event as Official Charity, we encourage everyone to tie up their shoelaces and fundraise for this wonderful charity;

Richard Spratt, Chief Executive of Cancer Focus NI, said:

“We are encouraging participants to be #StrongerTogether in 2022 after a very tough couple of years.  All the money raised for will stay in Northern Ireland and will fund a new research project looking at the treatment of oesophageal and pancreatic cancer – two cancers which at present have very low survival rates.”

The organisers are delighted to bring participants back to the TEC on Saturday 17th September to collect their Race pack with their new dynamic scanning. There will be activities for the whole family, and everyone is welcome to attend during opening times 10.30am – 6pm.

2022 will see a change to the old route, whereby participants will run along the picturesque Sydenham Greenway instead of the Sydenham Bypass, before entering Victoria Park – full details can be found on our website at www.belfastcitymarathon.com

Chairman of Belfast City Marathon, John Allen commented;

“We are pleased to welcome back our Half Marathon to its traditional date of September following the pandemic. Following a successful Full Marathon in May we are thankful that we can host this race too and look forward to seeing you. A special thanks as always to our volunteers who assist us in the preparation and delivery of the event, as without you we would be unable to host this.
